Inquiry 3 Final Draft – Post 4

The Ripley’s Brook Farm and Rapture also had a significant similarity. Brook farm was based on self-reliance and so was Ryan’s Rapture. Unfortunately for both communities, their leaders both became obsessed with power and greed. Ryan broke one of the rules of Rapture by ruling the people. The residents of Rapture were not their to be ruled, they were there for a life of freedom to do whatever they want for themselves and not because others wanted them to do it. At Brook Farm people had to follow a few rules from the very beginning but they wanted to do those things and live the life style being provided by the Ripley’s. The Ripley’s had more power than Ryan to begin with and they still managed to ruin the peaceful lifestyle they had created. The Ripley’s became obsessed with the Fourierism movement that led to young people being forced to do all the dirty work like repairing roads, cleaning stables, and slaughtering animals. Once this took place many people started to leave Brook Farm, especially the young people. When these people were leaving due to the poor conditions at Brook Farm I think they were lucky compared to the residents of Rapture because Ryan did everything he could not to let people ever leave Rapture. Both communities’ residents had to face changes and issues enforced from their leaders self-indulgence, luckily those from our real world were able to escape it if they wanted to unlike the people of Rapture.

trying to escape

I want this image to show how hard it can be to escape sometimes. Once you get in it can be very difficult or even impossible to get back out. In Rapture is was nearly impossible to get out once you were in. At Brook Farm when life went south followers of the Ripley’s could and did leave, but those leaving were definitely frowned upon.
